Free Quiz Maker with Automatic Scoring

An automatically scored quiz works best when the answer rules are explicit. Comet Forms lets you enable Quiz Mode, choose a correct answer for a question and assign points. The submitted answer is compared with that configured answer, and matching questions contribute to the score. This provides a straightforward way to prepare short knowledge checks or practice exercises. It does not replace an assessment policy, a learning management system or manual review of open-ended reasoning.

The quiz starting point uses the survey template with Quiz Mode and score display enabled. Change its placeholder questions before sharing it. A radio question is a practical first scored question because the respondent selects one defined value. Write the options so only one is clearly correct if that is the rule you want. Do not assume a question is scored merely because it appears in a quiz: it needs a correct answer and, where appropriate, a point value.

For example, ask which character separates fields in a comma-delimited CSV file. Provide “Comma”, “Tab” and “Semicolon” as choices, choose the value for “Comma” as the correct answer and assign one point. Then submit the preview once with the correct choice and once with another choice. The first result should earn the point; the second should not. This small check confirms that the configured answer matches the option value rather than just its visible label.

Required settings and scoring settings solve different problems. A required question prevents an empty answer, while a scored question evaluates an answer that was given. You may include an optional comment for feedback without scoring it. If you use a long-answer question, the current scoring comparison is exact rather than a semantic evaluation of meaning. Variations in spelling or formatting may therefore matter. Use choice questions for predictable automatic scoring and review explanatory text separately.

The completion screen can display a score when Show Score is enabled. If you prefer to review results before releasing them, turn that setting off. The owner can work with hosted responses after publishing a saved form. Test the total possible points as well as individual questions, particularly if some questions carry more than one point. A total based on question count would be misleading when point values differ; the displayed denominator must reflect the configured points.

You can draft, edit and preview the quiz without an account. Sign in when you want a hosted link and saved responses. A standalone HTML file is an independent output and does not silently write to the hosted response list. Save-and-resume, when enabled for a saved form, stores progress in the respondent’s browser. That continuity is helpful for practice, but it is not a secure examination mechanism or proof that the respondent completed the quiz without assistance.
