Starting a form should not depend on creating an account before you know what you need. Comet Forms lets you begin with a blank draft or an editable template, change its title, add questions and preview the result without signing in. The draft is kept in the browser you are using. That makes the no-signup workflow useful for exploring an idea, preparing a questionnaire or generating an HTML starting point before choosing a collection method.

There is an important boundary between building a form and hosting one. You do not need an account to edit the local draft, check how questions look or download its standalone HTML. You do need to sign in to save the form to an account, publish a hosted link and read responses collected through that link. The sign-in prompt appears at those actions rather than blocking the first edit. Respondents do not need a creator account to complete a published public form.

The contact template is a practical place to start. It includes a required name and email, an optional phone number, a subject dropdown and a required message. Change the subject options to match the enquiries you actually receive. If you only answer by email, remove the phone question instead of collecting information you will not use. A short, clearly labelled form gives the recipient enough context without turning a simple enquiry into an application.

Required questions are marked in the editor and checked in the preview. Try the form with missing answers before you export it. For choice questions, use labels that a visitor can distinguish without guessing. Keep explanatory text next to the question it affects. You can add a long-answer field for detail, a date for an appointment request or a signature for acknowledgement, but each additional question should serve the purpose of this particular form.

A local draft is not an online backup. If you clear site storage, change browsers or use a different device, that draft will not automatically follow you. Starting a template produces a new unsaved form rather than editing an existing saved account form. Save a useful draft to your account when you want to manage it across sessions. Do not rely on a shared kiosk browser to keep a private draft, especially when several people use the same device.

The standalone HTML option is also distinct from a public hosted link. The exported file has its own inputs and local answer download; it does not silently connect to a Comet Forms account. If you place it on a website, decide how visitors will send their answers and explain that destination clearly. For account-based collection and a Responses view, publish the saved form and distribute its public link instead. Preview both the questions and the completion screen before inviting real responses.

Comet Forms is a free, no-signup form builder by CSV Tools Online. No credit card is needed to prepare the form. The useful promise here is a clear starting point: draft first, test the questions, and choose hosting only when you need it. It is not a promise of anonymous cloud ownership or unlimited browser storage. Keep a copy of anything important and avoid collecting sensitive information without a suitable privacy notice.

Example

A freelancer can prepare a contact form with name, email, subject and message, preview its required fields, and export an HTML copy before deciding whether to publish a hosted link.

Can I publish without signing in?

No. Hosted publishing and response management require a creator account.

Do respondents need an account?

No creator account is required to fill a published public form.
