Three ways to split a CSV
The splitter offers three methods — by number of rows, by approximate size, or by the values in one column. Every output file keeps the original header row so each part can be imported on its own.
Which method to use
| Method | Use when | Output names |
|---|---|---|
| By rows | A system imports at most N rows at a time (CRMs, mail tools, databases) | name_rows_1.csv, name_rows_2.csv… |
| By size | You need parts small enough to email or upload | name_size_1.csv… |
| By column value | You want one file per region, customer, month or status | One file per distinct value |
Example: one file per region
Choosing "By column value" on a Region column with North, South and West produces three files, each containing only that region's rows plus the header. Rows with an empty value are grouped together rather than dropped.
Before you split
- Remove duplicates first so the same record does not end up in two parts.
- Trim whitespace in the grouping column — "North" and "North " would otherwise become separate files.
- To recombine parts later, use Merge CSV.
