How to beautify JSON
Paste or upload JSON and the beautifier parses it, then rewrites it with line breaks and 2-space indentation so nested objects and arrays are easy to read. If the JSON is invalid you see an error instead, so beautifying also checks the syntax. Nothing is uploaded.
Steps
- Paste JSON into the input box, or upload a .json file (up to 10 MB).
- The formatted JSON appears with syntax colours; switch to the tree view to collapse and expand nested parts.
- Copy or download the result, or use Minify to turn it back into a single line.
Worked example
Input: {"id":7,"name":"Ana","tags":["admin","beta"]}
Output: the same data split over 8 lines, with "id", "name" and "tags" each on their own line and the two tags indented inside the array.
Limits and common errors
- JSON does not allow comments, single-quoted strings, unquoted keys or a comma after the last item. These are reported as errors, not fixed automatically.
- Very large files (several MB) can make the browser slow, especially in the tree view on phones.
- Numbers with more than about 15 significant digits lose precision when parsed by JavaScript; keep such IDs as strings.
